Move along, nothing to see here :)

Pathetically, there’s no progress to report for last week. I wasn’t really focused after the big push last weekend, and had the next algorithms assignment to work on. Onward and upward.

Planned items from last week:

  • Start justification document
    • not done
  • Read a paper from revised reading list
    • not done

Other accomplishments this week:

  • N/A

Hours worked: trace amounts (target: 30 hr)

Plans for coming week:

  • Start justification document
  • Read a paper from revised reading list
  • Work on code to massage meter data

Pointers to work products:

  • N/A

Cool links:

  • Nothing this week.

Flu + Algorithms Assignment = no progress

Last week was a total wash: I got a mild case of the flu, and the complexity of my algorithms assignment seemed to increase exponentially the further along I got. Assignment is virtually pau, but the first part of the last assignment is due next Monday (they’re close together because of an extension on the last assignment). Hoping to make some modest headway this week.

  • Stayed alive πŸ™‚

Single-purpose web pages

It’s been ages since my last blog post, so here’s a short one. I came across two new simple single-purpose websites today, and I think it’s an interesting trend:

http://instantrimshot.com/

http://www.sadtrombone.com/

Here’s a information-based one:

http://www.isitchristmas.com/

And one that’s funny (and mildly offensive):

http://thingsididlastnight.com/

Is this the start of a trend? Über REST with only one verb? πŸ™‚ If you know about others, add them in comments.

Update: apparently the term is “Single Serving” websites. Here’s a list, though many of them suck.

Regarding the title of this blog

So perhaps you're wondering why the blog has such a long title, and what the heck it means? Regardless of whether you are wondering, I'm gonna tell you. πŸ™‚

"Seize the Moment of Excited Curiosity for the Acquisition of Knowledge" means that when you are wondering about something (like what is the country of Dominica, as opposed to the Dominican Republic), you seize upon that fleeting "excited curiosity" and find out more now. If you don't, the feeling will pass and you'll have lost the opportunity to learn more about the universe.

The phrase is something that my parents used to say when I asked a question (oftentimes at the dinner table). It was something my maternal grandfather used to hear from his father, and it got passed down. It's presumably an abridged version of this William Wirt quote.

Anyway, I decided that it was a good expression of what this blog is about, and what life should be about in general.
